CURRENT SERMON SERIES: THE CHURCH | It's All About Jesus

SERIES SUMMARY
When people say ‘church’ many different things tend to come to mind. For some, church brings up images of stained glass, potlucks, and pews while others might view the church as religious, irrelevant, or detached. Additionally, many of us who go to church tend to define our perspective through the lens of our experiences and we rarely consider God’s design for the church and our role within it.

We invite you to discover an incredible truth with us: God designed the church to be all about Jesus! Let’s celebrate God’s design for the local church, where Jesus leads, reigns, and permeates every aspect. Explore with us how mission, membership, and the roles of elders and deacons all connect with God’s good plan to glorify His Son through His church!

CHILD DEDICATION SUNDAY

Join us as we celebrate Child Dedications on Sunday, April 28th, 2024 at our 8:45am & 10:45am Gatherings.

At Gospel Life, we love when dads and moms choose to lead their families together and point their children to Jesus, humbly asking their church family to help them with this noble task. There is nothing magical about a child dedication, as it does not secure the child a place in heaven (only Jesus does that) and it doesn't protect the child from any possible harm. Instead, we view it as an act of obedience that expresses a parental commitment to raising Godly children who love and serve Jesus by the grace of God!

**PLEASE NOTE: Only 2nd service sign-ups are available as of April 12th.

Deadline for sign-ups is Tuesday, APRIL 23RD.

3 REASONS YOU SHOULD DEDICATE YOUR CHILD TO THE LORD

1. IT’S BIBLICAL

In the Old Testament, God gave Abraham a sign (circumcision) to show that he and his family were dedicated to the Lord. As we entered into the new covenant, this particular symbol was done away with as the sign. Instead Baptism replaced it as the sign for salvation. While some would say that we should baptize infants now, we personally don’t see enough in Scripture to support baptizing children. Although we do see throughout Scripture parents making commitments to raise their children to know the Lord. For example: Deuteronomy 6, Proverbs 22:6 & Luke 2:22-24.

2. IT’S COUNTER-CULTURAL

So many children in today’s culture will never know what it means to have the daily influence of a man in their lives, let alone a man that loves Jesus.  By the grace of God, children in our church will not experience that. Instead, we are encouraging fathers and mothers to live as counter-cultural examples of the saving grace of Jesus Christ alone. As Christians and by the grace of God, we believe parents can lead their families and raise their children to know and trust in Jesus, not religion or spirituality.

3. IT’S FAMILIAL

At Gospel Life, we desire to see men take the initiative and together with their wives love and lead their children to Jesus and as a result build a family legacy that lasts for generations. Dedicating your child to the Lord is a step in this direction and choosing to do it with your church family allows them the opportunity to come alongside you. In so many words, you are asking your new family to help you achieve this noble task.

FAMILY WORSHIP SUNDAY

Our Family Worship Service exists to celebrate the call we’ve all been given to disciple the next generation and give them an opportunity to engage in worship together with us.

Every quarter throughout the school year, we take time to worship together with our kids aged 5+ as we celebrate the good news of the gospel through family discipleship!

Here’s a few things to note for this Sunday:

  • All kids ages 0-4 will be checked-in to GLK like our normal Sunday Gatherings. Check-in opens 15 minutes before the start of service (at 8:30am & 10:30am). Arrive early so that you'll have plenty of time to get your littles checked-in and yourself settled in the sanctuary.

  • All kids ages 5+ will join us in the sanctuary for a time of worship, hearing from God's Word, reflection, and celebration of the good news of the gospel.

  • Parents, as the lead disciplers in your family, please take this opportunity to help connect the truths from the worship service to the lives of your children. During our worship service, please consider minimizing screen time, playing with toys, and other activities that might distract them from hearing the gospel proclaimed or from the experience of being an active part of our church family worship service.

  • What if I don't have kids? We believe that it's a vital corporate endeavor for us to work together to disciple the kids that God has entrusted to us at Gospel Life. We pray the Lord would use this Sunday to encourage you and equip you for the call we've been given to disciple the next generation!

Questions? Send an email our Family Ministries Pastor, Luke Wilbanks at luke@glpuyallup.com.

CURRENT SERMON SERIES: JOHN (Part 6) | ABIDE

SERIES SUMMARY
Jesus is now only hours away from being arrested and He knows that His cross, His suffering, and His death will all take place before this time tomorrow. These are some of the last words that He will speak to His disciples before He lays His life down for the sake of His friends. Jesus wants them to know how much He loves them, how dependent they are on Him, and how true joy and flourishing can be found. Fullness of life and fullness of joy are found as we ABIDE in Christ, His Word, and His love! As we remain in the love of Jesus, staying connected to Him day by day, we grow in knowing Him and loving Him, which produces fruit in the lives of His disciples. We also come to understand that apart from Him we can do nothing.

Over the next 6 weeks we will be looking at what it means to ABIDE in Jesus as the only source of true and everlasting life, love and joy. Along with discovering what it takes to “bear much fruit and so prove to be His disciples.” That is definitely what every one of His followers' desires deep down, but we often live our lives in a way that is disconnected from Jesus, lacking the joy and the peace that is only found IN HIM. In the pursuit of achieving our goals and trying to flourish in our own strength, we often trade the offer to ABIDE in Jesus, for a life of fruitless busyness. These 6 weeks are an invitation from Jesus; to slow down, to consider living life a different way, to find true rest for our souls, and to enjoy Jesus for who He is and for what He has done for us. So, please take Him up on His offer and learn how to live a fruitful life connected to Jesus. Join us as we slow down and learn how to better ABIDE in Jesus. His love and His joy are offered freely and He is giving us a clear path forward in how to find true satisfaction IN HIM.

CURRENT SERMON SERIES: JOHN (Part 6) - Believe

SERIES SUMMARY
While John 1-12 covers the first three years in the life and ministry of Jesus, John 13-17 invites us into the intimate details of a single meal that Jesus had with his disciples less than 24 hours before going to the cross. In this Last Supper, Jesus washes the disciples’ feet, foretells his death, and gives these men invaluable instruction for the events that will follow in his crucifixion. However, Jesus is doing so much more than giving them a basic instruction manual for the hard times to come. He’s sharing the truth of his gospel with His followers with great love, empathy and compassion. If you’ve ever wanted to have a meal with Jesus, this is it, and if you’ve ever longed to have the King of Creation speak into your life in a way that is personal, powerful, and penetrating, you’ve come to the right place.

Join us over the next 12 weeks as we slow down to sit with Jesus, hear from Jesus, and invite Jesus to minister to our hearts as gospel people that are living on this side of the resurrection!

CURRENT SERMON SERIES: JOHN (Part 5) - Believe

SERIES SUMMARY
When we arrive in John 12, we learn that Jesus is now less than a week away from his crucifixion. John 12:1 tells us that we’re 6 days away from the Passover Feast and it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Pharisees have a plan to murder God’s Son, the Lamb of God that would take away the sins of the world (Jn 1:29). However, as his oppressors get louder, Jesus’ mission becomes clearer – Jesus tells us that He will in fact die (Jn 12:7), that His death will take place on a cross (Jn 12:32), that He will cast out Satan through His death (Jn 12:31), that He will be glorified by His death (Jn 12:23), and that His death will bring eternal life to anyone that would lose their life to follow Him (Jn 12:25). Although the adoring crowds would soon reject Him, John wants us to see in John 12 more clearly than ever that Jesus really is the Triumphant King that has come to save His people from their sins.

Over the next 6 weeks, we’ll explore several of the contrasts that John presents to us through John 12 – treasure over treason, adoration over rejection, losing our life over loving our life, light over dark, and ultimately belief over unbelief. In all of this, we pray that the object of our faith would become clearer as we stand in awe of the glory of Jesus Christ presented to us through His Word.

CURRENT SERMON SERIES: JOHN (Part 4) - Believe

SERIES SUMMARY
The first part of John's gospel makes clear that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and in doing so presents an argument that by believing this reality anyone can receive life in His name. Throughout this section, John records multiple miracles that authenticate Jesus’ deistic claims and the greatest one is His raising Lazarus from the dead. These signs create controversy for Jesus and ultimately pave the way to His death on a Roman cross.

Over the next 12 weeks, we will witness Jesus redefining what is true as He authenticates His identity as God and Savior of the world. We will be challenged by true authority and be invited into true freedom. We will learn what is true sight in a world of darkness and be encouraged by the good shepherd to trust and follow Him. We will have unbelief exposed and learn the essence of true abiding faith. We will witness true compassion as we watch true power on display in the life and ministry of Jesus as He loves and serves people with an other-worldly kind of love. Our desire is that as a church we will experience the real Jesus and as a result fall to our knees in worship!

Summer/Fall Sunday Service Schedule:

  • Aug 20th - ONE Service at 9:30am

  • Aug 27th - ONE Service at 5pm

  • Sept 3rd and following - TWO Services at 8:45am & 10:45am

CURRENT SERMON SERIES: JOHN (Part 3) - Tough Questions About Jesus

SERIES SUMMARY
Questions are good because they help us discover and better understand the truth. In John chapter 7, we find twenty questions; more than one question every three verses, and all of them provide insight into the unique person and saving work of Jesus. Thus far in his gospel, the Apostle John has made the case for Jesus' identity by recording specific miracles and discussions with people so that we can understand who this Jesus is. But in this chapter, John takes a different approach. He records a variety of questions that any thinking person would probably ask Jesus, then allows Jesus the opportunity to provide His own answer.

During this six-week sermon series, we've boiled down all twenty questions into six major ones, so that anyone who is wanting to know the real Jesus, can know Him, believe, and be set free!

SUMMER WORSHIP GATHERINGS

Join us this summer for our ONE ALL-CHURCH indoor worship gathering in the sanctuary at 9:30am. This will be our regular Sunday gathering rhythm to worship Jesus throughout July & August. Join us as we sing, fellowship, and celebrate the good news of Jesus together through the Gospel of John Part 3.

Gospel Life Kids will be fully operational and available for children age 0-6th Grade.

GLK PARENT NOTES:

  • Arrival Time: Check-in opens at 9:15am and closes at 9:45am.

  • 1st Time Guest: If you are visiting us for the 1st time, we would love to help make your time with us as smooth as possible. CLICK HERE to fill out a Pre-Registration form. This will help our GLK Check-in Team prepare to make the most of your child(ren)’s visit with us!

  • Promotions: All children have been promoted in grade level in our system.

  • Signage & Locations: Classroom names, signs, age filters, and physical locations will be different than during the regular school year. Please check the classroom name on your child’s printed name tag at check-in to ensure you are dropping them off at the corresponding hallway classroom location.

  • Classroom Capacities: Our desire is to receive all children who attend on Sunday, however, this is often a delicate balance of volunteer/child safety and class capacity for discipleship effectiveness. We want to honor our volunteers and love your children well.

  • Fall Opportunities: As we look toward fall, our prayer is to have 12 more volunteers join our GLK Serve Team which will enable us to offer full GLK at both services. If you would like to help make this a reality, you can start the process now by filling out an application HERE or by sending an email to melanie@glpuyallup.com to request more information.
