Our story isn’t the big deal, but we believe Jesus has invited us into His story to be His people, and that is something to get excited about and celebrate.

We love Jesus. We live and love the Greater Puyallup Valley. We want the Valley – from the bi-ways to the highways– to love Jesus. This mutual love triggered a small group of people to begin praying about planting a new Jesus-loving, Bible-believing, Gospel-centered church somewhere in the Greater Puyallup Valley.

In the fall of 2012 this vision began to take shape and God began to give us collective vision for what this might look like. We gathered a core group of families. We developed our vision, mission and values. We prayed, served and shared the gospel with one another and God really began his mighty work. Rob Mayer and his family moved back home from Seattle, Washington to lead the charge and God went before us in supernatural ways and opened doors unimaginable.

On May 5th 2013, we began meeting as a small community in a home on Lake Tapps. During the next four months, God grew this community to a standing room only venue that was fueled by the simple gospel message of Jesus Christ and loving relationships.  Soon after, God opened the doors of Aylen Jr. High School and we began holding Sunday worship services. We are excited to be in partnership with the Puyallup School District as we have the opportunity to serve this downtown Puyallup community. We are excited to share that October 6th 2013 is our birthday and officially the Gospel Life Church plant was born.

Our prayer is that God would use us to sink the roots of the good news of Jesus Christ deep into the hearts of many in the Aylen Community and throughout the Greater Puyallup Valley. We invite you to join us as this story, God’s story, continues to be written. “O Lord, [we] have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known…” (Habakkuk 3:2).

In 1999, Rob graduated from Whitworth University, moved from Spokane to Seattle and through a series of events began teaching and coaching in the Greater Puyallup Valley. In the years that followed Rob was drawn by God to transition from teaching to ministry. Over the past 14 years, he has lived and worked throughout the Greater Puyallup Valley as a teacher, coach, Young Life leader and youth pastor. Nearly 5 years ago, it first became clear to Rob that he was called to "Preach God's Word" and plant churches throughout the Greater Puyallup Valley. Soon after, Rob moved his family to Seattle to finish his Masters' degree in Theology and get assessed to be a church planter. Rob spent two years on staff at Mars Hill Church in Seattle and was trained to be a lead church planter through the church planting network, Acts29.

Rob believes that God calls all who are in Christ to be missionaries and take the gospel with them into their everyday life and that has impacted not only the way that he does ministry, but the way that he lives his life.

Rob and Lisa have been married for 11 years and have 4 kids, Hollace, Hannah, Makena and Michael. They are thrilled to be apart of what God is doing in the Greater Puyallup Valley and excited to lead the movement that is The Gospel Life Church.
