The saying is trustworthy: if anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.
— 1 Timothy 3:1

Since the inception of Gospel Life Church, we have consistently called, trained, developed and equipped men for the office of elder. Our biblical/theological convictions about eldership have been well established from the beginning and consistently proclaimed through sermons, position papers, and training materials. God intends for his church to be led by godly leaders as outlined in scripture (1 Tim. 3/Titus/1 Peter 5:1-2)

Many people apply the title of “pastor” to those in full-time vocational ministry, but in the Bible the term pastor and elder are used interchangeably to refer to the same person or group of people. Therefore, we use the word as one in the same, referring to elders and pastors as the New Testament does. Pastors/Elders in New Testament churches were not mere figureheads, but more importantly leaders, shepherds, pacesetters, and disciple-makers.

Scripture sees Pastors/Elders as competent, committed, mature Christians of godly character who lead, teach, love, correct, rule, guard sound doctrine, evangelize, work through conflict, and develop more leaders who are also biblically qualified to love and serve the local church.
