Free In Christ

This last weekend, we learned that Jesus really did come to set people FREE. This freedom doesn't come with a number of ifs, ands, or buts – God’s word says that what Jesus did in His life, death and resurrection was FREE us for FREEDOM (Galatians 5:1). This means that anyone who is in Christ, really is free (John 8:36). No disclaimer. No addendum. No qualifying points. Christians are free.

Just so you are aware - I didn’t make this up. Jesus did: ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. . . . Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed’ (John 8:31-32, 36). Freedom is a gift from the Son of God. If He says you and I are free, that ought to settle it for us. And the amazing thing is - He does say it. So I dare anyone to say otherwise.

What does it actually mean to be free in Christ? It means that we are free from the rules we thought bound us to God. It means we are free from the manipulation other Christians use to make us like them—free from having to fit into the world’s mold, free to be different.

We are free from the slavery of religion and from the fear of rejection, alienation, and guilt. We are free from the fear of death. We are free from masks, free from shame and pretense; free to doubt, free to risk, free to question. It means we are free to live every moment. But most of all, we are free to follow Christ, not because we have to but because we want to.

That means if you’re going to follow Christ, don’t be wimp about it. Follow Him all the way, don’t play it safe – really trust Him with all your heart. Don’t ever rely on your own understanding – EVER – BUT in ALL your ways acknowledge Him – Let Him totally direct all of your paths!

I want you to test the limits of this FREEDOM that Christ has set you FREE for. The Bible actually says,  “If you belong to Christ, you are really free”. So if you are really free – FREE without disclaimers, without addendum, without qualifiers – then test it’s limits. Because if you are Free - Let me say it again: You are free! You are free! You are really free!! LIVE IN FREEDOM! You will find yourself loving God and loving others like you never have before!!
