Satan is a terrorist. His goal is to hijack you from the path God has for you! He hates God and as a result he has launched an all out attack on what God loves – YOU.  His plan is to hold you hostage in your sin, condemnation and shame. His plan is to get you to wade in the pool of self, get your eyes off your rescue, your hope, your salvation and your help. His tactics are subtle, but effective and will remove you from God’s plan, purpose and design resulting in you believing a lie and striving toward something that is already finished.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Jesus (John 10:10)

Satan’s mission is to steal our joy, terminate our lives, and diminish our relationship with God and each other and he is aggressive about it. If there is anything he can do to interrupt the abundant life God has in store for us, he will attempt it.

“The devil does not sleep, but seeks our ruin in a thousand ways.” – Angela Merici

Our best defensive strategy is not to work harder and do more or even try to battle our enemy, but to resolutely fix our eyes on Jesus! The believer must be committed to the promises of God that are consistently articulated throughout His Word and then be committed to preach the gospel to oneself and respond through faith and repentance to it daily. The reality is that Christians need the gospel just a much as non-Christians. Believers are prone to Satan’s attacks when they have an inadequate understanding of the gospel’s truths. The answer isn’t to try harder in the Christian life but to comprehend more fully and clearly Jesus’ incredible work on the cross and then to live in a more vital awareness of the amazing grace of God every moment of everyday. The main problem in the Christian life, in other words, is not that we don’t try hard to be good and battle Satan. It’s that we haven’t thought out the deep implications of the gospel and applied its powerful reality to all parts of our lives. This will transpire when we fix our eyes on Jesus!

You must fix your gaze on Jesus and not waver. You must trust in Jesus' finished work on the cross. Do not negotiate with the terrorist when he threatens. His tactics will rob you, kill you and leave you devastated. God’s voice must be the only one you hear! He has accomplished everything for you, “It is Finished”, so just get your eyes on Jesus, He is the key to abundant life!
